Is it your desire to know how to fix a dishwasher? Why? Do you need to save money? Are you like me and hate going shopping? Is someone pushing you to repair it? Do you just like taking things apart? Is a big party coming up, and you strapped for time in preparing for it as you need to clean lots of dishes?
What ever your reason might be, I’ll give you a tip on how to fix a dishwasher. Take a good look at the unit you own. What does the owners manual say? A lot of times when the manual says call a technician you just might be able to repair it yourself.
To get optimum access to all parts, once you are familiar with the unit, and depending on the problem, you will have to pull it out from under the counter.
Since water and electronics are a bad combination, this leads to breakdowns.
Most breakdowns you will be able to fix. Before you call a repairman, you might be able to save money. I’ll show you now a simple repair of one of the most common problems.

Dishwasher repair tips:
1) Dishes still dirty after washing? If this is the case, just relax. In many cases this is as simple as the shut-off valve being off. It feeds the water coming into the machine. Under the sink you will find it, check the water shut-off valve. It is on? Make sure this is so.
So it might be necessary to check the spray arms for clogs. If so unclog them by hand. Since most spray arms are poorly designed food gets clogged in the opening, and you can’t take them apart. Cleaning out the arms with the garden hose putting high pressure water through them is the best way to do it.
Put about 300 ml of vinegar in it instead of detergent and run the machine without dishes inside. The full cycle should be run here. This should do a great job of cleaning it. So after the dishes have been washed, are they still dirty, is there water left in the bottom of the machine? This might mean that your outlet is clogged: you will have to clean any of the filters at the bottom of the machine. Another thing you can do is check the outlet valve, and hose under the dishwasher.
Funny thing, just last week I did all of the above, but what do you know: my dishes still remained dirty. How did this happen? More clogs you could not see. Always look deeper inside! And that’s what I did. I dug deeper into the unit and realized that I was able to clean a filter I had not see before. This nasty filter was blocked with sediments. After I cleaned it everything was great! If you have water that is hard it will build white hard sediments in the filters openings.
