The things that go wrong with dishwashers are minor, and anyone can fix most of them. To learn how to fix a dishwasher might not be difficult. A big tip: get the longest guarantee you can on your new dishwasher as you will be delivered a machine that will at least last until the guarantee is done. Now you might need to buy some parts, or call someone in to service it.

If you want to save money try servicing it yourself.

So how to fix a dishwasher? It is possible that you will have to open up the kick panel. Opening the door of the machine usually there is several screws that fasten the back panel and hide the electronics. These screws have to be removed to get at the switches and electronics, just don’t forget to put them back later. So under, and in some cases behind the dishwasher you will find the motors, pumps, in-takes and out-takes. You will have to pull the dishwasher out from under the kitchen counter to get at this. Follow these dishwasher repair tips carefully:

How to fix a dishwasher 1: If your dishes remain dirty: this could be as easy as the shut-off valve being off that feeds the water coming into the machine. Double check the water shut-off valve, which is under the kitchen sink to make sure it’s on.

Check and unclog the spray arms with a garden hose: number one reason for dirty dishes. And make sure the machine inside is clean, filters included.

After the dishes have been washed, look to see if there is still dirty water in the bottom of the dishwasher. If so clean any of the filters at the bottom of the machine, your out-take is clogged. As well check all out-take valves and hoses under the dishwasher too.

But if the problem remains, and you can’t determine a clogged hose, then you might have a faulty internal water valve, and you will need professional services for this.

How to fix dishwasher 2:

If the machine is not pumping the water out like I said before: clean and unclog any interior filters. Now take a look at the air gap of the sink near the faucet. Is it clogged? Then unclog this too. After that check the out-take valve, and unclog it.

It is also possible that you have to replace the drive belt on your pump. The actual motor might have stopped because it is stuck. Try and get it loose by turning it with your hand. Replacing the motor is sometimes necessary.

How to fix a dishwasher 3:

If your dishwasher does not seem to have power then always look to see if it is plugged in, and then see if the circuit breaker is OK. Not a power problem, then it is likely a switch problem. Most machine switches are cheaply made. They are made out of plastic and springs, and get worn down, or loosed inside the housing. You really should replace it, or fix it be tightening it up. If all of these things do not work, or you can not find the problem it is probably way bigger a problem than you can fix, so you will have to buy a new dishwasher, or call a technician. Electronic units, and wiring problems are beyond my scope.
