Installing a Built-in Dishwasher at Home

The age of a dishwasher can show in its performance. Using an old dishwasher everyday and loading it to its capacity will definitely take its toll on your utility bills. Therefore, not only does it lack effectiveness, but it will also cost you a lot of money in the long run. If this is the case, then it is high time you ditch that wretched machine and replace it with a more energy-efficient one.

The first thing to do is take out the old machine. Once that has been done, measure the space where you took it from to determine whether the new unit you are planning to buy will fit there or not.

Turn off or unplug any electrical circuit that is connected to the old dishwasher. Likewise, close the valve that supplies water to the machine.

Lay the new dishwasher on its back and attach the drain hose with compression clamps. Use needle-nose pliers to do this. With a Teflon tape, wrap the threads on the water inlet connection and attach the 90-degree brass fitting for the water line. Set the machine upright and connect the water line to the fitting.

Take out the cover from the junction box and run the wires through the knockout back into the box. Using needle-nose pliers, attach the black wire on the box to the black wire on the dishwasher and twist them together. You should then tighten the nut over them. You will have to repeat this with the white wires. On the other hand, the bare ground wire should be tightened to the green ground screw inside the box. Wrap the wires where it meets the nut using electrical tape. Then, put the cover back to the box.

You will then need to connect the drain line to the exact place where the old unit was connected. Before moving the unit into its proper place, open the water line and check for leaks. Slide the dishwasher fully into place and make sure that it is on a sitting level by adjusting the legs. After that, screw the top flange of the machine into the bottom of the counter holding it in place. Turn the power back on and run a cycle on the machine to make sure there are no leaks. Finally, you then have a newly installed dishwasher in your own home.
